Off road motorcycles aren't supposed to have Gear shafts, that stick so far out of the engine casing. The KLX230 unfortunately does, and that means in a crash or on impact, the gear shaft is prone to bending right at the casing. This causes the oil to drain out , and leaves you stranded on the traIl. A damaged shifter rod from a minor (or major) drop can ruin your week, not just your day. Your first problem is that you’re stuck on the trails, unable to shift gear; in the best case scenario, you limp home in the gear that the transmission is wedge in. Your second problem is that replacing a damaged shifter assembly requires first waiting for parts, and then splitting the cases. It takes time, and money, and keeps you out of action.
